In the middle of 1956 Elvis thought he was gonna be Elvis forever. Approached by reporters in 1977, John Lennon said, "Elvis died the day he went into the army."
Certainly by the time of his beloved mother's death in 1958 Elvis began dying.
Oh, he showed us plenty in 1968- the "comeback." Yeah, after '56 he was always the greatest Elvis impersonator. Let's face it, he had quite the advantage.
Nothing lasts forever, though. All of the lessons are about loss. Oh, and love. I love you very much.
