One Leg At A Time

Who decided that diamonds are valuable? Probably some guy who owned a diamond mine, right? I have some stock from the Jemison Gold Mine Company but I'm afraid that it shut down long ago. That's alright. I don't believe they ever found any gold there.

When school children around the world are taught about the United States, will the chapter about children in cages be sadder than the one about the Trail of Tears? Slavery?

Seems to me we've got some making up to do.

Give us peace on earth and end this dreadful, dreadful war.

What's To Become Of Us?

Sometimes I can't tell the angels from the ghosts. Everybody here seems to get along pretty well, so it probably doesn't matter. These are the days that find me getting younger. Younger than what, you probably wonder. Just younger. I'm not trying to be rude- I'm just not something that can be explained.

Next time you find yourself exchanging currencies, just remember that the only two that matter are time and love. Stay around the ones who have plenty of both that they're willing to share with you.

Life's not short, it's just often wasted.

Give us peace on earth and end this dreadful, dreadful war.

Juneteenth- Ronny Elliott

Still Smoldering

To quote my pal, Rebekah, "Nobody seems cool anymore."

Now, I know that after the first fifteen or twenty years of life, you don't get new taste buds. Those pizza burns? Eventually you'll pay the price in the home when they bring you your gruel. You'll complain that your food just doesn't taste good anymore.

What about taste, though? The other taste.

Oh, I could use Elvis or Little Richard as examples of cool. I'm not interested in nostalgia, though. I'm not interested in any "back in my day" crap. Since I've mentioned them, I'll start my list with them and I'll add:

Mae West
Beau Brummell
Vikki Dougan
P.J. Proby
Oscar Wilde
Jayne Mansfield
Twiggy
Hopalong Cassidy
Cab Calloway
Flash Gordon
Lady Godiva
Superman
Josephine Baker

Maybe this is all sloshing around my cerebrum because of our loss of Gloria Vanderbilt. I still try to make sure that there is one red object in every room based on something I read, quoting her when I was a kid.

Now, do I seem fashionable? Do you think of me as someone who would take decorating advice from Gloria Vanderbilt?

You should probably know that I won't wear any tennis shoes other than Jack Purcells. That's what James Dean wore.

I'm not cool. Never was. Never will be. I do, however, have a very strong sense of style and I take my influence from the right ones.

Do Just What I Want

What can it hurt, a blog every now and then? Once, every couple of years, I leave the convenience store with a Snickers.

Dog sitting for friends' pups has filled a major void. It has also shown me that I don't really need to get over anything. Let me make an exception here for anger. I'm not mad at anybody and I don't have any reason to be.

My sweetest memories are constructed, for the most part, of loss. Sometimes, when I get up the nerve, I peek at the meter that measures my love. I don't need to be any kind of math whiz to see that I've used up most of my allotment. That's okay. I've slopped that stuff around as though it was free. It is! Much to the chagrin of individuals who play roles in my imagination, I plan to keep it up, no pun intended.

Spring in my step? Maybe. I haven't lost much of my hair, though, and I haven't forfeited one whit of love.

Wind Twistin'

Maybe it's one of those things where, as they say, "You'll know when it's time." Honestly, I feel like I've told you every story I know. Most of them twice. At least. I will probably reach out with something new every now and then.

As much as I would like to say that I'm busy with other things, that wouldn't be the truth. Oh, I'm working on a new record, lots of new songs, a book or two and still finishing up that play. I'm always working on stuff. Just don't finish much. Other folks call it living.

Writing a blog every day has kept me out of therapists' offices. Romance. Trouble. Funny thing is I'm still not sure that I understand what a blog is. I know they were out of fashion before I started this one.

It has been a couple of years now since those two friends explained that I'm socially awkward. Well, no wonder I communicate like this!

All the old stuff will be around on the web forever, I suppose. My only regret is that I'm left with so many pictures of me having way more fun than real me. Mostly it's just boo-hoo, rock'n'roll's dead. Some girl was mean to me once. Politicians lie. War is dumb. Women are better than men. Pretty much all the animals are superior to man. Nothing much matters but love. I've been some places and I've seen some things.

Happy trails and remember that I love you.

Give us peace on earth and end this dreadful, dreadful war.

Love,
Ronny

Take A Number And Wait

A wise man recognizes his insignificance and finds delight in spite of it. Be wary of any man who boasts of his own wisdom. Don't have anything to do with a man who considers himself insignificant.

As I chart my life, up to now, I seem to have struggled to be alone. Now- I'm alone.

It's not an exclusive club.
