Oddly enough, same thing in books at one time - I knew people back in college who go out and buy a used copy of Finnegan's Wake just to make it look like they'd read it a bunch of times. And then there were the people who'd come in to the used book store where I worked and ask for 10 feet worth of red books. Or green ones. Didn't care what they were, a long as the color was right. We used to grit our teeth and stand behind the counter while the boss handed them to key to the warehouse.
